Welcome

Breast cancer affects 1 in 8 women. I know, because it happened to me--no family history, out of the blue (and into the pink). A year later, after a mastectomy, chemo and radiation, I am still here. I'm thriving, surviving and living out from under the shadow of cancer.

Coney Island, Beach Glass and The Wonder Wheel

Wednesday, June 9th, 2010  (2.49 mi./5260 steps) 263 cal.

Went for radiation treatment today; uneventful and I was on time. It was cool out today, a perfect day to look for beach glass/ beach pottery at Coney Island. I took the 4 train to the D train. Once there, I picked up a few pieces of beach glass and one piece of beach pottery. I have a friend in Canada who spins beautiful creations from this stuff and sells it on Etsy. I think I'll ask her to make a pendant from the piece of beach pottery.

Wasn't able to stay long on the beach, because it rained a bit. Walking along the boardwalk , I decided to ride the Wonder Wheel. Darn it, I wished I'd brought my camera. Lots of children there on school field trips ( New Yorkers are a hardy bunch; no matter the weather we get out and carpe diem). I enjoyed the kids at Coney Island— ah, to have that sense of wonder and boundless energy again.

I thought of a few movies that featured the Wonder Wheel, such as Girl 6 and The Warriors. Another of my favorite chick flicks features Coney Island—Two Weeks Notice. The Coney Island Museum on Stillwell was closed today, so I hung out at Ruby's Bar and had a glass of lemonade. It was a good time for the cost of a subway ride, Wonder Wheel ticket and free walk around a great spot in Brooklyn.
