Welcome

Breast cancer affects 1 in 8 women. I know, because it happened to me--no family history, out of the blue (and into the pink). A year later, after a mastectomy, chemo and radiation, I am still here. I'm thriving, surviving and living out from under the shadow of cancer.

Watermelon juice and A Walk in Harlem

Saturday, June 5th, 2010
Harlem Walk (4.96 mi/10,490 steps) 524 cal. 185 lb.s
This morning I juiced ½ of a small watermelon and a few pinapple spears before my walk. I was surprised to find that watermelon is very good for you: it's delicious and full of beta carotene and lycopene.  It flushes the kidneys, hydrates you, boosts your immune system and is full of cancer fighting antioxidants.   For the men, it's good for prostate health.

My friend called and I spoke to her as I walked up Lexington Avenue to about 121 st Street. We were going to doing something today, but she has a lot of work to catch up on. I walked up to 125th Street and over to Morningside Avenue. I headed south and cut over to Manhanttan Avenue. I passed a few beautiful neighborhoods. On 110th and Manhattan, there were a few farmers selling produce and I bought a bunch of beets and kale. I didn't have my camera, and today I wished I'd had it.

I entered the park at 110th on the west side and walked around the Meer to my exit on 106th. Got home and showered—it's hot outside—and changed into my pajamas. I lay on my towel on the bed naked and let the fan blow me dry. Felt wonderful. I juiced some of the beets and handful of kale, pinapple and apple. Tasted very green from the kale, so I put in the freezer to chill it a bit and improve the taste.

Just going to rest and relax the remainder of the day. ~
